M-enterococcus broth is a modified version of the improved media described by Slanetz and Bartley; the modification is the addition of 2,3,5-Triphenyl-tetrazolium chloride (TTC). Colonies produce a red colour as a result of the precipitation of formazan following the reduction of TTC by bacteria. The media detects enterococci in 48 hours. Sodium azide inhibits the growth of gram-negative organisms.
